Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement

North Central Surgical Center was awarded Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification from The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS)

North Central Surgical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

North Central Surgical Center underwent a rigorous, onsite review on March 11th-12th, 2020. During the visit, The Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement standards spanning several areas, including patient involvement in decision-making, full-continuum care coordination, performance measurement, patient safety, and emergency management.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend North Central Surgical Center for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

North Central Surgical Center spent 18 months in preparation for this certification. The Medical Director and interdisciplinary steering committee worked to implement its evidence-based design, including pre-surgery optimization for patient selection and medical condition management, as well as the application of state-of-the-art techniques in surgical anesthesia. The committed front-line staff was vital to the success of the on-site review in demonstrating coordinated efforts to deliver safe, high-quality direct patient care.
